Pickling

Pickling (source Wikipedia) is a metal surface treatment used to remove impurities, such as stains, inorganic contaminants, rust or scale from ferrous metals, copper, precious metals and aluminum alloys.A solution called pickle liquor, which usually contains acid, is used to remove the surface impurities. It is commonly used to descale or clean steel in various steelmaking processes.

GT is leader in stainless steel pickling industries thanks to our grade GT FLON allowing to handle mixed acid media (Nitric acid + Hydrofluoric acid) with high reliability.
Traditional graphite impregnated with phenolic resin or with “fake” superficial PTFE impregnation have very limited lifetime especially at high temperature.

Many mixed acids composition exist depending on the type of metals to pickle.
Sulfonitric acid, phosphonitric acid, phosphoric and sulfuric acid which are all very corrosive against traditional phenolic resin impregnated graphite. GT, thanks to GT FLON grade allows to handle such media for most applications of pickling.

Actual suppliers of cheap and unreliable solutions had damaged for years graphite heat exchangers application for carbon steel pickling.

GT introduced features to prevent competition’s recurrent failure. We claim to have the most reliable equipment for pickling. The ROI of our solutions is the highest on the market including metallic solution like Tantalum.
